Florida Hospital System Agrees to Pay $85 Million to Settle Medicare Fraud False Claims Act Whistleblower Case

Halifax Hospital Medical Center and Halifax Staffing Inc. (Halifax), a Daytona Beach, Florida area hospital system, have agreed to pay $85 million to settle a Medicare fraud whistleblower lawsuit.   The lawsuit alleged that Halifax violated the False Claims Act by submitting claims to Medicare that violated the Physician Self-Referral Law, known as the “Stark Law.”

JP Morgan False Claims Act Whistleblower Gets $64 Million Award

Today a New York federal district court approved a $63.9 million award to a whistleblower for providing mortgage fraud information regarding J.P Morgan Chase & Co.  The whistleblower provided information that lead to JP Morgan’s agreement to pay $614 million over allegations it defrauded the United States government into insuring flawed home loans.

United States Sues Sprint Under the False Claims Act Alleging Overbilling on Wiretaps

On Monday, March 3, media outlets reported that the U.S. Justice Department had filed a lawsuit under the False Claims Act alleging that Sprint Corp. overcharged the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and other law-enforcement agencies by more than 50% to facilitate conventional eavesdropping on phone calls.
